Behavioral Health

summer joyride

We believe that mental health is a key part to your overall health.  The goals of behavioral health interventions are similar to those of other primary care treatment: helping people function so that they can lead healthier, fuller lives.  Some people may feel uncomfortable about seeing a therapist for personal problems. But almost everyone is faced at some time with challenges that are hard to fix alone. Getting help for personal problems is just as important as getting help for medical problems.  Getting help with a problem is a smart step. It is a sign of personal strength.

We believe that mental health improves the quality of life, no matter the age.  When we are free of depression, anxiety, excessive stress and worry, addictions, and other psychological problems, we are more able to live our lives to the fullest.

Mental health strengthens and supports our ability to:

  • have healthy relationships
  • make good life choices
  • maintain physical health and well-being
  • handle the natural ups and downs of life
  • discover and grow toward our potential

April 1, 2016

The term “codependency” can mean different things to different people. Over the years, a number of authors have offered a variety of definitions for this difficult dynamic that seems to affect more people than we can imagine. My definition is a very simple one: “codependency” occurs when we put other people’s needs ahead of our […]

We're here to meet the needs of Clearwater Medical Clinic patients and the community

How Services Work

In counseling sessions a variety of evidence-based therapy practices are used to meet the client’s needs and build upon their strengths.  Individual counseling offers you a chance to express thoughts, feelings and concerns, and will provide you the opportunity to better understand your behavior and situation, and to learn new ways to approach and solve problems.  We do our best to provide an accurate and fair assessment that will help guide our treatment planning.  At times, you may experience feelings that are uncomfortable and hard to face.  But like going to the dentist for a toothache, you will feel better in the long run after you seek treatment.  Seeking assistance for personal problems is just as important as receiving assistance for medical problems.

Our goal is to provide an open, supportive, and confidential environment for you to address the issues that are concerning you

Whether your provider has recommended you for counseling, or perhaps you decide that it would be helpful for you to talk with a professional, the first step is to make an appointment.  Call the clinic number, 208-743-8416, and request a Behavioral Health appointment.  Our normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8 to 5, being closed during the noon hour.  Please feel free to contact us at any time during business hours.  If we are not available we will do our best to get back in touch with you as soon as possible.

The first appointment involves an intake assessment.  This appointment is the time for you to explain your problem, concern or issue.  You may be asked about the history of this problem, significant others in your life, other lifestyle components, to determine and clarify how the therapist may help you and to determine treatment needs.  Consider your therapist as a resource.  After this assessment process an individualized treatment plan is developed establishing goals for treatment, and strategies and interventions to achieve them.

Behavioral health appointments generally are approximately 45-55 minute sessions.  The counseling office is designed to be comfortable and quiet, to offer a safe and relaxed environment.  You and your therapist will determine the frequency of these sessions, which may be weekly, every two weeks, etc., based on your individual treatment needs, progress, and goals. All services are provided in strict confidence. The personal information that you share with your therapist is confidential and not shared outside the program unless you sign a release of information or if law requires disclosure.

Insurance & Payments

We ask you to please review your insurance policy for behavioral health/mental health services coverage.  Behavioral health coverage and prior authorization requirements vary by health plan. Check your coverage documents or contact our business office for more information.  Many times there is a limit as to how many visits are allowed per year; please discuss any concerns about this with your therapist.  In discussion with your therapist, a request for extended services can be filed to allow for more sessions to complete your goals of therapy.  We do expect co-payment at each session.  It is the policy at Clearwater Medical Clinic that no more than a $500 balance can be carried for services provided at the clinic.  Arrangements can be made with the business office.

Confidentiality & Medical Records

Providing a safe environment is important to the therapeutic work that we do.  Part of that safe environment is confidentiality.  Everything we discuss is confidential, except matters pertaining to (1) intention of self-harm and/or harm to another person, (2) physical/sexual abuse or neglect of minors, persons with disabilities, and the elderly, (3) legal activity resulting in court order, and (4) to anything else required by law.  For those matters, legally and ethically confidentiality would be broken.  Of course, we would be willing to share information with any other professional or agency that you wish provided that you sign a Release of Information form.  We abide by the professional code of ethics and adhere to the U.S. and State of Idaho statutes.

Health information sharing is an important part of delivering quality health care to individuals.  However, your behavioral health record is protected information and will only be shared with your permission by signing a Release of Information form.
